Chamber Music Mentoring Program
Check back here in January for the 2014 Mentoring Program Application
In 2013, twenty-seven local music students formed nine chamber music ensembles in order to participate in Birdfoot’s “life-changing” (to quote one participant) Chamber Music Mentoring Program. After working intensively with a Birdfoot artist mentor, several string quartets, a piano duo, a wind trio, a wind quintet and several other ensembles performed before Birdfoot Festival concerts and at the Birdfoot Mentoring Program Concert on Sunday, May 27, 2013. The program was FREE to all groups chosen, and students who participated got free admission to all of the Birdfoot Festival’s events and concerts (see www.birdfootcmf.org for the full schedule). They also greatly enjoyed getting to know the 2013 Birdfoot Festival artists. Scroll down for more information.
Chamber groups who participated:
• Worked intensively with Birdfoot Festival artists during the festival.
• Received two to three weeks of coaching prior to the festival from Birdfoot’s Artistic Director.
• Performed in at least one concert .
• Enjoyed free admission and VIP backstage passes to all Birdfoot Festival events and concerts.
Interested groups for Birdfoot’s 2014 season should submit an application in late March 2014 to the Birdfoot Festival, 6055 General Meyer Avenue, New Orleans, LA 70131. The Birdfoot Festival will contact all applicants to schedule auditions (early May 2014).
In this 2012 photo, Canadian cellist Michael Unterman coaches the Aeolian Winds, a sextet of high school wind musicians from the New Orleans area and the North Shore, as their mentor in Birdfoot’s Chamber Music Mentoring Program. Their work on the listening, teamwork, and musical skills involved in chamber music left all seven of them inspired and was supported by your donations.
