In 2012, seventeen local music students formed chamber music ensembles in order to participate in Birdfoot’s “life-changing” (to quote one participant) Chamber Music Mentoring Program. After working intensively with a Birdfoot artist mentor, a string quartet, piano trio, string trio, wind sextet, and string duo performed before the festival’s concerts on May 24 and 26, 2012. The program was FREE to all groups chosen, and students who participated got free admission to all of the Birdfoot Festival’s events and concerts (see www.birdfootcmf.org for the full schedule). Scroll down for more information.
Chamber groups who participated:
• Worked intensively with Birdfoot Festival artists during the festival.
• Received three weeks of coaching prior to the festival from Birdfoot’s Artistic Director.
• Performed in a Pre-concert performance .
• Enjoyed free admission and VIP backstage passes to all Birdfoot Festival events and concerts.
Interested groups for Birdfoot’s 2013 season should submit an application by April 8, 2013 to the Birdfoot Festival, 6055 General Meyer Avenue, New Orleans, LA 70131. The Birdfoot Festival will contact all applicants to schedule auditions (early May 2013).
Michael coached the Aeolian Winds, a sextet of high school wind musicians from the New Orleans area and the North Shore, as their mentor in Birdfoot’s Chamber Music Mentoring Program. Their work on the listening, teamwork, and musical skills involved in chamber music left all seven of them inspired and was supported by your donations.
